So I have been searching for sour cream, or an easy way to make it. Mostly because I want to make a baked new york style cheese cake, which requires sour cream. Most recipes online have buttermilk in them and I wasn't quite convinced of the idea.
Then I found this article online.
Requirements:
1) Normal Cream (1/2 cup)
2) 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
Thats it!!!! Just add the cream in a jar, add the vinegar, give it a shake. Leave it to chill in a refrigerator.
Ive tasted it and it seems to do the job quite well. Looks like my last excuse to not make a Baked cheese cake just went out the window.
Edit: You might want to add a little lemon if you want to increase the sourness.
P.S. I also tried this with heavy cream (had a little bit left over to spare). It separated to butter pretty quickly.
Will give this a shot! Never really explored the possibility of making it at home. Usually, when any recipe calls for sour cream, I substitute with yoghurt.
